Designers + Builders Alliance of Long Island
Throughout her life, Suzanne Sokolov has been motivated by a powerful credo: “When ‘NO’ is not an option, make it happen.” She has used it to successfully and enthusiastically press through a variety of personal and professional challenges.
As a young girl captivated by dance, she trained professionally and prepared for the stage after college, but her career path soon took her on another path off-stage. She became producer vs. performer. “Staging,” not the stage, became her passion and her starring role.
Early in her career Suzanne put that passion and training to work when she joined United Cerebral Palsy of New York City’s development department. There she produced and directed a wide variety of benefits, gained an extensive background in fundraising and wowed her more-experienced colleagues with her can-do attitude and acumen.
It was also at UCP that she discovered another passion – design – that was very much akin to her first love – the arts. Although active in many aspects of the agency, the direction of UCP’s celebrated House Tour captured her time and interest. For more than a decade, she successfully sought and secured access to exclusive residences designed by Manhattan’s premier designers, procured financial underwriting and handled all publicity, doubling the revenue for this semi-annual event.
Upon leaving UCP, she consulted on high-visibility interior design events, such as the popular French Designer Showhouse benefiting the American Hospital of Paris Foundation and Architectural Digest’s “Rooms With a View” design exhibit opening the Time Warner Building. Both presented opportunities to advance her public relations skills and reputation within the design industry.
In 2000, Suzanne launched her eponymous company, Sokolov Marketing providing a wide range of promotional services to interior designers as well as to trade-only home furnishings businesses. Six years later as her company grew, Suzanne merged her practice with Robin Sanders to form Boost Marketing NYC. Together they achieved visibility for clients in such high-end publications as Traditional Home, Luxe Interiors + Design and The New York Times and created marketing vehicles and unique programming to further clients’ brands – most notably Metro ASID’s Designer + Consumer Competition at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show and the 2-year branding initiative featuring the “Shop Like a Decorator” program for Manhattan’s East Midtown design district.
Currently, as Director of Marketing for Showcase Kitchens, a high-end kitchen-design firm with 2 locations on Long Island and a NYC subsidiary, she is spearheading all aspects of their social media, publicity, advertising and marketing efforts.
Close to her heart, and in addition to her position at Showcase Kitchens, Suzanne, with the assistance of the Founding Board, has developed the Designers + Builders Alliance of Long Island. She brings to the Alliance’s featured event, Homes of Distinction Tour, all her experience, know-how and contacts from her many years promoting endeavors and brands in the home furnishings industry.
